Building an Endowment for the Women's Center to End Domestic Violence in Southern Illinois
The Little Black Dress Party Major Underwriters: River Radio, 1187 Creative, The Great Boar's of Fire, Mediacom and SouthernTicketsOnline.com are launching an Endowment Program for the Women's Center in conjunction with the 2010 Little Black Dress Party. 919 represents the number of women and children in southern Illinois who were served by the Women's Center's Domestic Violence Program during the last fiscal year (July 2009-June 2010).
Our goal is to build an endowment that will give the Women’s Center the ability to continue to provide services to women and children in southern Illinois, who are victims of domestic violence, and to give the center the ability to improve those services in the future.
When we decided to build this endowment, we asked Cathy McClanahan, the Executive Director of the Women's Center to describe the needs of the center. We were told that the greatest challenge is, and always has been funding for the programs. And that challenge has grown each year, as much state and federal funding has been cut in the amount of over $80,000 - while the need for services continues to grow.
We also asked her to share statistics of services provided during this fiscal year (July 2009 – June 2010)
- The Domestic Violence Program served 919 women and children.
- The Domestic Violence Program provided emergency shelter to 303 women and children.
The Women's Center serves victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Jackson, Williamson, Franklin, Perry, Union, Saline and Johnson counties. These are domestic violence program numbers only and do not include the sexual assault program.
When we heard the report that 919 women and children had been served in the domestic violence program alone, we decided that number spoke volumes of the need for these services in Southern Illinois. We are using "Hope for 919" as the basis and the goal for building this endowment. We are asking 919 individuals from these counties to partner with us by donating $100 each, to create an endowment that will help sustain these services.
*Each person who donates $100 will have a chance to win a 5 night Western Caribbean Cruise aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines for 2 people! Valued at $700 (winner responsible for transportation to Miami Port) compliments of MGD 64 and Koerner Distributor, Inc.*
We are asking you to partner with us to reach this goal. Thank you in advance for your support.
